Platonov - 2025
In winter/spring 2025, I had the honour of lighting designing the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama's performance of Platonov in the Webber Douglas Studio in London.
Platonov: I thought I'd changed. A woman speaks to me, says one word, and I set out once more on yet another squalid dishonest romance. Why?
Men struggle over questions of world-shattering importance. Nothing shatters my world except women. Caesar had the Rubicon and I have women. The worst two words in the language: ladies' man.
This production is based on a slightly abridged script of Sir David Hare's version of the play for the Almeida Theatre, Chichester Theatre and National Theatre. It was premiered by The Almeida Theatre Company, London on 31 August 2001.
